So, You Got Your Tattoo Done.....Now What?

Now the tattoo Artist's work is done your work starts.

Tattoo usually takes upto 3 to 4 weeks to heal depending on various factors

like

The size of the tattoo (if its big tattoo with heavy filling then it is going to take longer to heal)

Type of tattoo (small line work tattoo might heal faster than tribal tattoos)

From where you got your tattoo done?

It is important to get your tattoo done by experienced tattoo artist only. A beginner artist might not know about the needle depth and could damage your skin

Here are few tips for your tattoo after care, so that your tattoo remain in best shape after healing.

  1. After your tattoo is done now it is wrapped in cling wrap. You should keep the wrap on the tattoo for about 6 hours. Maximum you can keep it covered overnight if your tattoo is done late at night. (note: you should not keep your tattoo wrapped for more than 12 hours in any case)

  2. Remove your wrap and clean it with mild soap, face wash, body wash. If your are using face wash it should not have scrub in it. Take some soap, make foam in your hands and wash your tattoo gently using your finger tips. Afterwards rinse it with room temperature water. (do NOT apply soap directly on the tattoo)

  3. You Should wash your tattoo 3 times one is on same day after removing the wrap 2nd next day morning and 3rd evening of next day. if you have decided or the tattoo artist suggested to keep your wrap overnight then you only need to wash it 2 times.

  4. After you are done with washing procedure starts applying ointment as suggested by the artist (you can apply coconut oil, johnson baby oil, cetaphil moisturizer all of these works just fine) You should apply a very thin layer of ointment 2-3 times a day. Do not over do it, just do the needful.

  5. You should keep applying ointment for 3-4 weeks minimum.

  6. In 3-4 weeks almost all tattoos heals. But Newly healed tattoo might look faded or looks king of un finished. In that case keep applying ointment for another 2 weeks and your tattoo will be 100% healed in your 6th week.

WHAT TO AVOID?

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure. Yes, you must avoid sun directly on your new tattoo until it is healing.

  2. Avoid Germs Exposure. Always wash your hands first before touching your tattoo. Whenever you want to apply oil/ointment just wash your hands first. Do not let other people touch your new tattoo. Just treat it like an open wound.

  3. Avoid Dust/Dirt coming on your tattoo.

  4. Avoid Water and Soap. After your washing procedure is done, avoid water and soap coming to your tattoo as much as you can. Try to take quick shower.

  5. AVOID GOING TO SWIMMING POOL UNTIL YOUR TATTOO IS HEALING

  6. Avoid Long Distance Travelling. In long distance travelling you might not be able to take care of your tattoo and could get infection.
